What Is The Heart?

The Heart is an artistically creative sacred space, overflowing with the rhythms and harmonies of heaven. Musicians, singers, dancers, poets, composers, actors, film makers, sculptors, painters, light, sound, and set designers captivated by the love of God, filled with love for God, and an aching world give voice through the musical theatre of unedited worship and prayer.

Often, The Heart is referred to as a prayer room, a place where one is free to express themselves in prayer and worship using both the creative and performing arts. The Heart is a place of encounter with God. You may have heard the words of a song say, “I’m coming back to The Heart of worship and it’s all about You, its all about You Jesus.”

Well, that’s exactly what The Heart is all about. Jesus said that the first and great commandment is to do what? To love the Lord your God with all your HEART, soul, mind and strength. At The Heart we are intentional about first hearing what’s on His Heart - Intimacy with God.

Have you ever gone to lunch with someone and found that all they did was talk about themselves – their needs, their wants, and their desires for the entire lunch? For sure, you finished eating your lunch first and in a hurry because you simply could not get a word in edge wise. Your lunch date apparently did not care about what was on your heart, or what you were feeling or thinking. Frustrated with their selfish monologue, you conclude that you NEVER want to go to lunch with that person again!!

Yet, this is what we do to God all the time! We treat prayer as a “gimme this and that” time. Too often, our “prayer time” is nothing more than commanding God to do everything we want Him to do.

I don’t know, maybe its just me, but I’ve participated in a lot of prayer meetings where from the first minute to the last minute we’ve done all the talking, or shall I say shouting, as if God is deaf! And, we NEVER take time to find out what’s on His heart. We NEVER take time to ask Him what He’s praying about. We almost never ask Him what He’s feeling or thinking about! Can you imagine how His heart must feel because all we really care about is what He can do for us or give us? Yet, this is what prayer is for many.

This is why we chose to name the prayer room, The Heart. We are intentional about creating a constant reminder that the heart is what God is after. And, His heart is what we care about most and want more than anything.

So how does The Heart function? Essentially, every hour or two there will be a new prayer focus and a new worship team leading worship and intercession artistically. Our goal is night and day prayer and worship using the creative and performing arts.
